Edit a Service Plan While Creating a Document
Update targets, goals, and status right from the New Document flow — no more leaving to edit, then coming back.
If a document type is set up for it, you can now review and edit a client's service plan the moment you create a new document — before you ever see the document itself. Update statuses, dates, and targets in one pass, then continue straight into your document with the changes already applied.
Who This Is For
Any clinician or provider who creates documents (for example, a Monthly Summary, an Assessment, a Reassessment) that pull data from a client's service plan. You'll need the same permissions you already use to edit service plans today — this feature doesn't change who can edit plans, only when.
Requirements
-
Service plan edit permission on your Office Puzzle account.
-
The document type you're creating must have Allow Service Plan Review turned on. This is set per document type by your agency admin — not every document type uses this step.
-
The client must have at least one service plan on file.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Go to the client's profile and open Documents.
- Choose the document type you want to create (for example, 4. Monthly Summary).
- Click New, fill in the Interval, Name, Author, and Client fields, then click Create.
- If the document type is configured for it, a Select Service Plan screen appears. Choose the plan you want this document to use.
- The plan opens in an editable view, organized into categories (for example, Maladaptive Behaviors, Replacement Programs). From here you can:
- Click the action icon next to any target to Edit, Clone, or Delete it.
- Click New Item to add a new target to the current category.
- Use Actions at the top of the window to add a new category, edit the plan's details, or export it.
- When you're finished, click Close.
- Office Puzzle takes you straight into your new document, already filled in with the up-to-date plan data.
Expected Outcome
Your document reflects the current state of the service plan — correct baselines, start/end dates, and active vs. discontinued targets — without a separate trip to the Service Plans tab. Any status changes you made (like marking a target Discontinued or updating an end date) are already saved to the plan itself, not just to this document.

What To Do |
|---|---|---|
|
I don't see the “Select Service Plan” step at all. |
This document type isn't configured to allow service plan review. |
Ask your agency admin to enable it, or reach out to Office Puzzle Support. |
