Switch appointments from Sunshine Health CMS to Molina Healthcare.

Starting October 1, 2026, appointments for Sunshine Health CMS clients must be billed to Molina CMS | Molina Healthcare. Appointments already on the calendar for October 1 or later still show the old insurance, so you need to update each one.

  • Applies to: schedulers and staff who manage appointments for clients who have Sunshine Health CMS coverage.
  • Result: each appointment uses the Molina insurance, the correct billing code and the matching prior authorization.
  • Time needed: about 30 seconds per appointment.

Note: The banner at the top of Office Puzzle, "Sunshine Health CMS appointments should not be booked for October 1, 2026 or later," is a reminder of this change. Click Read the notice again to see the full notice.

Before you start

  • You can edit appointments on the client's calendar.
  • Molina CMS | Molina Healthcare is added as an insurance on the client's profile. If it isn't in the Insurance list, see Troubleshooting below.
  • A Molina prior authorization is loaded for the client, so it can be linked to the appointment.
  • You know which appointments to update: any Sunshine Health CMS appointment dated October 1, 2026 or later.

Change the insurance on an appointment

  1. Open the client's calendar. Go to the client's profile and open Calendar.
  2. Open the appointment. Click Edit. The appointment window opens on the General tab.
  3. Check the insurance. If the Insurance field shows CMS | SUNSHINE HEALTH, continue. If it already shows Molina, skip to the next appointment.
  4. Hover over the Billing codes field and click the x to remove it.
  5. Hover over the Prior Authorizations field and click the x to remove it.
  6. Clear the insurance. Hover over the Insurance field and click the x to remove Sunshine Health.
  7. Select Molina. Open the Insurance dropdown and choose Molina CMS | Molina Healthcare.
  8. Add the billing code again. Open Billing codes and select the same code the appointment had before (for example, CPT-97153).
    • Check the units below the code (for example, 12 units = 3 hours). They should match the appointment time.
  9. Link the prior authorization. A message appears: "You have a prior authorization available." Click Continue. The authorization number fills in Prior Authorizations.
  10. Save. Click Save & Close.
  11. Repeat for every Sunshine Health CMS appointment dated October 1, 2026 or later.

What you should see

  • Insurance: Molina CMS | Molina Healthcare
  • Billing codes: the original code, with a full green bar under the field
  • Prior Authorizations: the Molina authorization number
  • The General tab shows a green check, and the appointment is back on the calendar at the same date and time.
